Using design, fabric choice and longarm pattern to make your quilt a moment in time.

Let me tell your story.

Here at KBK Quilts, I use all the elements of a quilt to capture the event, the person, or the memory you are looking to celebrate. After having an initial conversation between the client and myself, research begins.  Here are the elements that I will bring together to tell your story.

Design
Design can happen in many different ways. Often the client comes to the conversation with an idea. Other times, whenI talk with a client some little nugget of information sticks in my head until it becomes an idea. That idea could lead me to a quilt pattern. It might lead me to a specific quilt block, which I then arrange into a full top. But, on my brave days it can lead me to an original design. However I get to a design idea it always ties back to your story.

Fabric Choice

This element is either my downfall or my passion, depending on who you ask. Finding a fabric that can connect to the story we're telling is an achievement to me! The fabric might be a subtle nod or bold statement depending on your personal taste. Check out the quilt I donated for a raffle at the local school's production of Mary Poppins here.

Longarm Pattern

Longarming is a way to sew together the 3 layers, backing, batting and top, of a quilt. These large sewing machines allow a quilter to create the design one sees sewn into the quilt. Sometimes the design of a quilt demands a certain type of design, but as often as I can I go back to make the design match the story being told.

Communication

I feel a piece of me leave every time I ship a quilt, but the story is not mine. It is yours. To ensure you get the product you're looking for communication is key. Once we have decided to tell the story together, you will have input. Design approval, fabric approval and even discussions about longarm patterns is part of the package.
